1) There will be a new level of anticipation, excitement, and somehow you will remember the happy times when or if you do re-visit the place again.
2) I get to order more dishes and sample from every plate.
3) It's more economical to go in a group, don’t you agree?
For Angela’s BIG 4 (not sure if she minds me revealing her age, but oh well, age is just an number isn't it?) we decided to try out this 3 month old new restaurant “The Prawn Porn” located at 21 Duxton Hill. Being a vivid fan of seafood, before the dinner appointment arrive, I had already read every single blog that I could find about this new restaurant, the background, the menu, the ambience etc. But every blogger or write-up seemed to mention only the few same dishes so I began to wonder if it was based on a media write up or if it so happened that the people just generally ate the same stuff.
So the day came for me to find out the answer. The obvious main character of the restaurant are prawns and fish. And so, I also ordered the vermicelli claypot with prawns $32, TPS grilled king prawn in signature kimchi-miso butter $26, grilled seabass $58.50, not your typical fish skin $9 and steamed clams with white wine $16. Plus 3 beers & 2 prosseco. Total damage for 4 was $240.
What left us impressed was the vermicelli claypot with prawns. The vermicelli was so flavourful and fragrant. The seabass was really fresh hence even non-fish lovers will approve of this charcoal grilled fish (although the waiting time for this dish was about 40 mins). The fish was not over cooked. The prawns were of course fresh and sweet. As for the TPS grilled king prawns in signature kimchi-miso butter, it was an utter disappointment. All of us felt it tasted like belachan prawns. And the prawns weren't weren't huge either so it was especially sad to see that there were only 6 prawns in that claypot dish.
Nonetheless this is definitely a restaurant that I will visit again. But probably only after their dessert menu is in place.
