It’s Bangkok again. I never tire of Bangkok, despite it being my 1001st time there.
I have not been travelling much this year except for a Japan trip in Feb. I guess there are times where it gets too exhausting to plan or even think where to go next. So Bangkok becomes the perfect destination – it’s near, cheap and offers something for everyone.
We had planned for this trip sometime in July and have been counting down to it and finally the day arrived. Departing Changi Airport T2 at 9:40am, we planned to meet at 7.30am for shopping and breakfast. Wanting to save on cab fare I decided to take the bus to the airport. So I set off my house at about 6:30am with my huge 82cm luggage. Many people asked how I carried my luggage up the bus. Actually first of all, my luggage was really light. With a trolley cabin inside the big luggage, the 2 pieces together probably weighed only about 7kg in total and I sat at the most spacious seat (which is the one with 2 seats facing each other). And bus number 27 is really cool… it brings you all the way to the bus bay at each terminal! All you have to do is take the lift to the departure hall. My trip cost about $2? On the other hand Diane and Huifan shared a cab to the airport and it cost them $33. Hehe I have more money to spend on shopping!

Changi Airport has become such a shopping paradise. So much so that it didn’t leave us with any time for breakfast. DFS was having a 50% offer for most of the perfumes (promotion only for the month of September!) and YSL cosmetics were on 30% discount. =). Look at how the ladies shopped.

After 2.5 hrs, we landed. And being the highly urbanized and techy people that we are, our first mission was to look for a local telco to purchase SIM cards for our phones. 299 baht for 7 days of unlimited data. TIP: buy 1 data card & hotspot it.
For this trip we stayed at the Dusit Thani Silom. The room was really spacious and had 2 queen-size beds. Wanting to save on the hotel, the 4 of us stayed in the same room (even though the hotel actually only allowed a max. of 2).

Day 4:
Dimsum at Hotel Intercontinental
Shujuan gave me a coupon for the dimsum buffet at Hotel Intercontinental but as we arrived at the hotel at 2:15pm the kitchen was already closed. We ended up having high-tea at the lounge instead. Food was mediocre and I certainly do not recommend it. After that was shopping time! Platinum Mall is my all-time favourite mall. 2 shopping blocks side by side, with 6 levels each (one newer and one old). I didn’t have to go to the newer Platinum Mall block because I had showed hand?? at the older one. In 45 mins, I had already gotten 25 pieces of clothing for Mr Guan and my brother combined. Even Huifan was amazed at my speed of shopping. We shopped till the shops were almost all closed before we were willing to leave. Visiting Sirocco was the initial plan but due to the sheer exhaustion we decided to postpone it. So we walked around the hotel before calling it a night.
Hightea at Intercontinental 850 baht for 2
Guess who?
After filling the stomach is shopping time!!
We literally shop till the shops closes.
We then had to sette our dinner at the food court of Platinum mall. All these for 385 baht.
The next morning we proceeded to the famously hot Weekend market. I usually like to go as soon as it opens and leave by around noon time so it doesn’t become too unbearable for us.
Then it was brunch a a real hip and beautiful place recommend by Edwin. It really took us a long, long time and many wrong turns before we finally found the place. But it was so worth it. It was so exquisite and beautiful! I think we took like 100 pictures here and now I am going to load you with the pictureque photo.
More shopping after the sumptuous meal at Terminal 21. On the way in the cab the driver ask why we wanted to go to Terminal 21. He said the things there are so expensive and suggested that we should go MBK instead. But upon hearing that we were from Singapore he said “Oh!! Then you should go to terminal 21! You people have BIG money!” - by that he meant the exchange rate. Lynda replied and said “We no money, we are students.” At this time the driver pointed to Lynda and asked me “YOUR MOTHER?” Everyone started to burst out laughing. That was the moment, I fell in love with BKK even more.
The next morning at JJ market
Beef noodle soup
Followed by kopi.
And then shopping starts
We had to leave by 12 cos the place is getting too hot.
Karmakaket Diner (mega photo load cos the place is too pretty)
I super love these set of photos.

Hello Kitty café at Siam Square was the #1 destination on Diane’s itinerary that she die die had to visit and so we went. But everyone’s sentiments were the same, it was a flop. The food was decent but the experience and made us all felt lousy after visiting.
We settled dinner at the road side stall
All for 710 baht
Next morning was brunch & then shopping again. Brunch was at a little quaint Paris-inspired café which Lynda’s cousin recommended.
2nd selfie
More shopping after food
Next morning we finally had the chance to use the voucher which Shujuan gave me. Eat all you can dim sum at Hotel Intercontinental.
But the food nothing to rave about.
Before we depart, here's a photo of how the swimming pool looks like at Dusit Thani.
Well is time to say goodbye.
It was the first time that the 4 of us went on a holiday together and 4D/3N actually ended pretty fast. After counting down for weeks and months, in a blink of an eye we are back in Singapore, working dilligently and waiting patiently till the next trip =)
Till the next.
