Bistro Petit Salut @ Chip Bee Garden

28 February 2013

It has been quite some time since we had a 4 course set lunch in a nice environment.  Pearly booked us to have lunch at Chip Bee Garden at Bistro Petit Salut where she had read that they served quite a yummy mushroom risotto.

Chip Bee Garden has always been one of my favourite places to have my meals. Be it at lunch or dinner, it is usually quiet and peaceful.  But unfortunately today was not so.  We were seated beside of a group of Japanese ladies with their toddlers who were busy screaming away!

Anyway coming back to the lunch set, it was really a good deal!  The $28+++ includes a starter, main, dessert (regular portion) and a coffee/tea.

At first we weren’t sure if the coffee/tea was included in the set so the 3 of us decided to have a bet.  Liteng bet that coffee/tea was included and won herself a scoop of MAO SHAN WANG ice cream from The Daily Scoop which is located a few doors down from the bistro.

Mozza @ MBS with Lynda, Diane, Huifan & Andrea

18 February 2013

I have been to Mozza a few times already but this visit was made for the sake of Lynda and Diane who have not tried Mozza before despite the rave reviews they heard.  So for our CNY meetup, instead of eating the usual traditional Chinese fare, we went there for some pizza.

Although our dinner reservation was made for 7.30pm, we were not seated immediately as the waiters were still cleaning the table.  The place was as crowded as the last time I was there.

I quickly volunteered to order the food as the 4 of them didn’t seem to know what they wanted.  I settled for 2 portions of Diavola Wings $18 each portion, Pork Meatballs Alforno $17, Benno Pizza $35, Salame Pizza $29 and Funghi Pizza $30. Grapefruit soda, Lurisia Chinto, Lurisia Gazzosa, Lemon Soda $8 each and a Raspberry Tea $6.

Gift from Diane

In my opinion, the pizza was still as good as I remembered.  But the side dishes are expensive and unnecessary.  When I return for my 4th visit I would just go straight for the pizza and soda, and nothing else.

Verdict 4/5
Total damage for 5: $217.75

Early Valentines Day with Mr Guan @ Catalunya

13 February 2013

This year Mr Guan and I decided to spend Valentine's Day earlier so here we are at Catalunya, a new spanish restaurant which overlooks the MBS for Lunch.
Outfit of the day:
Dress: ASOS
Clutch: Prada
Belt & Bracelet: Hermes
Shoes: Stuart Weitzman

Upon pushing the heavy door, you are welcomed into a circular bar counter. The place is decked with big wooden furniture and pretty decorations. I couldn’t wait to try the food. Before the food was served, I told myself that if the food was awesome that I would definitely return with Mako, Adeline, Louise, Karen and Pikling on Valentine's Day itself.

I ordered an array of tapas for the lunch as the main all seemed a little too heavy.  And instead of ordering Spanish red wine to go with the tapas, I opted for cocktails instead.  The first cocktail I had is called Singapore Sour.  Mr Guan had the Kumquat cocktail to celebrate the Chinese New Year.  The cocktails are priced at $20 and $24 which is the average price of a cocktail in most other restaurants. A must-have at Catalunya are the Marinera mussels.  The taste and portion far exceeds the pricetag of $14

Escalibada – foie gras with eel

Singapore Sour

Bikini – ham & truffle sandwich

Cod Fritters – too salty

Pasians Favourite

Calamari – squid was fresh and patty was crispy

Suckling Pig – the meat was really tender but the skin was not as crispy as those served in Chinese restaurants, and after chewing the meat was a little too gamey for my liking.

Stairway to Heaven

Total Damage for 2 - $198.91

Verdict 4/5
