Our Weekend Gateaway - Road Trip to Penang

It took us about 11 hours to reach Penang....Jam at the custom both Singapore and Malaysia side for 2.5 hours. Stopping in between to eat breakfast and lunch and some toilet breaks. Luckily, the North South Highway traffic was smooth.

After reaching, the first thing we did were to check in our hotel a St Giles.
It is a nice hotel...I strongly recommend you to top up for the breakfast option which cost less than SGD 10 per person when I do the booking. The breakfast buffet is good...many variety.

After some resting...we decided to check out what is around out hotel. Our hotel is so near to Chulia Street thus we just walked over. Our first stop...handmade noodle. Taste not bad...no photos because we forgot to took haha...
Ming Xiang Tai...this is a shop I would recommend you to check it out. They have many different flavors of "Tua Sa Piang" and I just had to tried it all. It is really good. Tried out the egg tarts too...their signature is actually the egg tart.

The next day, we went Joo Hooi Cafe for their famous Penang Laksa. The laksa was good ...so was the Char Kway Teow. However the Lor Mee does not suit our taste...we did not finish it. And if you are a fan of Chendol....the Penang Most Famous Teochew Chendol is just outside the cafe. Beware: The queue is so freaking long!!

Next up.. is the famous Roti- Kaya shop at the small alley. The shop looks like it had not moved with time....it still look very 60s.
This shop is so publicize on TV...almost all the show that introducing Penang will come here.
The famous steam bread with the thumb print of the waiter...umm..did he wash his hand?
Overall, i think this place is over hyped. Do try to order once you are seated...I saw many people trying to get the attention of the waiter but the waiter have the special ability to look pass you like you are transparent.

Do visit HO Ping Cafe which is just behind...walked past the alley and you will see a curry noodle roadside stall. Do order from the uncle.....the curry me is so sedap. Inside Ho Ping ....do order the Hor Fan but be prepare to wait....The Ho Fan is worth waiting for...very delicious. The rest of the food is also not bad.

Everyone say that if you never come Penang Hill when you are here.. is not consider that you came before. So here we are....despite the heavy rain we still went ahead. to There is Express Pass (60RM -2 way) and Normal Pass (30RM-2 way) this price is for Tourist. We made a mistake of not buying the express pass as the que is so so long. It took us more than 1 hour to go up the hill and 45 min to come down the hill. The crowd here is not afraid to shove you one side, just to get up the tram. Not advisable for elderly and pregnant woman to go unlless you bought the express pass. The crowd is merciless.
It is actually quite nice up the hill if not for the rain...we can walk around the hill..
The food court on top of Penang Hill. Most of the stalls were closed when we reached. The Char Kway Teow is good....the rest of the food can forget it. The satay is the slimiest I seen in my life and it cost 10RM for 10 sticks.

I came to know this restaurant on "时尚玩家“ and decided to check it out since we were looking for a Peranakan Restaurant. After I came back, I came across this restaurant rating on Trip Advisor, the rating is quite bad. But luckily for us, we did not check the rating before we went down. In fact, contrary to the rating I think the dinner was good. The lady boss is also very friendly and passionate about Nonya Cooking...sharing with us her experience with different customer. Taiwanese Singer, Wu Bai is her food fan...he will come by whenever he is in Penanag.

Food is nice however price is not cheap based on Malaysia Ringgit but due to our strong currency....the price is actually very reasonable. Total price is RM 311, including 3 mugs of beer.

Do make reservation  if you are going during peak hours as there are only 4 tables in the restaurant. The owner is also the food consultant for "Little Nonya" drama, as you can see the poster in the background.
The Kueh Pie Tee is nice...this is the first time I tried Kueh Pie Tee..
The Otah...different from the usual red colour....it is green colour!!But it tasted like the red Otah...very interesting dish
The rest of the dish...
The happy and satisfied Diner.

After dinner, the gals were craving for dessert and the guys were complaining they were very full. China Black Cafe is located in a quiet street but it is definelty not quiet inside. The place was full when we reached. If you think this place is small that why it is full ....you are so WRONG....in fact this place is so long and every section brings you a surprise .... every section has a different theme.

Part of the cafe only...the rest is for you to explore when you are there....

Look at the cake selection....you will be overwhelmed by the cake choices....what should I order??

The cakes we ordered and shared... Tiramisu, Black Forest and Banana...all the cakes were delicious.

 The weird looking Nutella Milkshake...
Delicious Cakes = Happy Gals!! Total Price spent: RM 170.50

China House
183B Victoria Street and 153 & 155 Beach Street Georgetown, Penang

Next day before going to Penang Peranakan Mansion, we had a short tea break at the White Town Coffee outside the museum. I guess the White Town Coffee in Penang is more interesting compared to the one in Singapore. They have more variety of food in their menu.

Penang Peranakan Mansion....this was the place they filmed Little Nonya. Ex-Owner, of this house was a China triad boss and high ranking officer from China at the same time. Currently, this house is own by a developer who turned it into museum and displaying the antiques he collected over the times.

 The Boss Seat..

W.T asking Angie to choose which Gold belt she like....
The gold comb...that is made with pure gold so it is south enough to brush Nonya Hair.
 Kitchen of the Nonya
RM 140,000/- for this piece of beads art.
I am guess this clutches cost more than a Hermes one...
This cock shows off the skillful embroidery skill of  Nonya. Many different technique is used to sew the cock to make it look 3D.

The bedroom of Baba &  Nonya

29 CHRUCH STREET, 10200 PENANG, MALAYSIA

Finally. we checked in Hard Rock Penang to rest and relax. We got upgraded to the pool access room. The room actually looks dated...

Its quite cool actually to have the pool right beside you .... you can jump in the pool anytime...

The pool is actually quite small....I had been to Singapore and Bali Hardrock Hotel. This one in Penang is really not impressive if compared.

The beach outside Hard Rock Hotel is quite disappointing. You cannot walk in peace as there is operators selling you water sports, the moment you step onto the beach. The seaside area is also not suitable for swimming as there is a lot of sea sport activity going on.

Dinner we had at Hard Rock...The Band was good.

The burger tasted weird as it comes with funny tasting Turkey Bacon. The patty also not good so much so for the Legendary Burger. No Legend is made.

Next Day, we check out at noon and head back to Singapore....Bye Bye Penang. The custom was smooth this time, leaving at 1 pm, we reached Singapore at 9.30pm...(stopping 3 times for toilet break and a bit of Jam here and there)
