Recently, I saw on facebook my friend liked the samplestore.com, being curious I clicked on the link to see what is it all about.

At first, I was skeptical with so many fake websites online saying that they are giving out free stuffs but actually they are trying to fish our information. After, I saw Samplestore.com is a member of Singapore Post Group I think it should be save to register with them. So I registered!!

Samplestore.com is  the leading online try-vertising platform in Singapore. With more than 100 different brands and up to 80,000 members, Samplestore.com boasts a unique sampling experience unlike any other.

You can choose either from the sponsored sample which is 100% free or the non-sponsored sample which you had to pay the $5.99 handling fee, you can choose up to 4 samples which is quite worth it also, depend on the product you chosen. Some sample size is generous ...some sample size is in mini size. I chosen 4 of the 100% free sponsored product to test it out.

After 2 weeks, the product arrived my house. Never had I expected the packing to be so nice. (I thought they will post it out with normal boring envelope..)

Inside the packet...4 samples...2 toner and 2 toothpaste...

The toothpaste sample is traveler pack size....never expect they are so generous with the sample size. I thought it would be like the mini toothpaste size we get from hotel rooms haha...My teeth is going to be super clean.

It had been a long time since I am free on a Saturday for high tea.We decided to try out Cassia at Capella high tea, we made our reservation when we were on our way there haha. The last time I am here with Ashley for lunch was great so I decided to come back and try their high tea which is from 3-5pm.

We were given 2 choices of the menu...western or Chinese style. We chose the Chinese style. The High Tea is charge at $39.90++ per pax.

The dim sum was serve in 3 tier "take-away" basket..

First tier...Deep fried Vietnamese rice roll, Deep fried Bean-curd roll with goose liver, Baked Black Pepper Beef pastry.

2nd tier....Steamed Lobster Dumpling with gold flake!! , Steamed Crystal Dumpling with vegetables and lily bulb, steamed vegetables dumpling with black fungus and mushroom.

Last tier, Mini abalone on the Siew Mai....the abalone was yum, Kurobuta Pork with Truffle Char Siew Bao, Pan fried Traditional Pork Bun.

3 piece dessert...the green liquid is cream of avocado..very refreshing, Salted Egg Custard Bun and Baked Custard Pastry.

The dim sum was very dedicate thou only one pieces each but at the end of the course I was full. My partner think otherwise. That's why guy do not appreciate high tea haha ...food is too little for them. 

I will definitely return to the place again for the dim sum high tea...love the food...love the ambience..note: if you are driving do ask for complimentary car park coupon. The car park charges at Capella is $8 for the first 2 hours. 

Total Damage : $ 95 + $10 (entrance to Sentosa)

It had been quite sometime since I last travel with Ashley. the last trip is 4 yrs ago at London and Netherlands. This time, we had a new travel buddy Lynda.

Ashley and Lynda had book their tickets earlier on SQ, (I decided to join them last minute) , I would be flying a different flight from them. I took Qatar airline which is cheaper than SQ while I put myself on the waiting list on SQ Business return flight which I change using miles. Very luckily, I manage to get the return flight on SQ so I be back together with Ashley and Lynda.

I had never took Qatar airline before but I heard the airline is rank one of the top airline in the world, so I guess it should be on par with SQ if not better. Qatar Airline transit in Doha while SQ fly direct to Paris. Doha Airport is very modern so stopping over there was comfortable.

And guess what I am upgraded to business class for the flight from Doha to Paris FOC

Bincho @ Hua Bee @ 78 Moh Guan Terrace

Recently I have been super lazy to blog.  So let me pick up the pace again by starting on my first post of 2014.  Here's my take on Bincho at Hua Bee.

After celebrating Valentine's day together last year, I decided to organise it again this year but as V-Day happened to be on the last day of CNY, we decided to postpone it.

The coffee shop where Bincho is located houses a mee pok stall by day and the whole place transforms into a Japanese restaurant by night. Now let the photos do the talking.

I wish they had Japanese draft beers instead of the imported Japanese beer which do not even taste half as nice. $18

Mako is so not done with Japanese food too (despite having just returned from Hokkaido).

Scallop and Salmon sashimi $30. The scallop sashimi was so sweet and definately comparable to the one in Hokkaido. (PS. I will attempt to blog on the Japan trip soon ya =p)

This is definately a place where I would return for another visit. We had an array of ala carte snacks plus 1 beer plus 1 720ml sake ($110) plus a coke plus 2 sake mojito ($23 each) and the total bill came up to $650. Although I find that the prices are slightly on the higher side, the service and the freshness of the food justifies it.  You definately have to come once to try it out for yourself.

Ashley's travelogue 2013 - Paris

Dear All, sorry for the mega delay for the Paris posting. I have been in a serious post-Paris coma ever since I've been back. I miss the cool breeze, I miss the sight seeing, I miss the oysters, I miss the pastries, I miss the night scenery so much. Even though we were there for a good 7 days, just Paris, yup, just Paris. There were still things that I wanted to do. I wanted to sit in a horse carriage, snuggle under a blanket and tour around the iconic spots. I wanted to have a picnic below the Eiffel Tower. I wanted to take a walk along Siene River. I wanted to sit in a café as I watched the world go by.

Packing for Paris was tough,  especially because I visited in Fall.

Recently, we have been quite addicted to steamboat. To our joy, we found that Crystal Jade had also joined in on the recent Steamboat craze! There is a Crystal Jade Steamboat Restaurant outlet at Zhong Shan Mall which is one of my favourite hideouts as the mall is very quiet and it is really easy to find a parking space. 

The steamboat here is in a set and ala-cart style. The price is quite reasonable, starting at around $28.90++ per set for two. Soup is inclusive.

There were also other side dishes if you preferred to try something else.

The comprehensive sauce section. There were so many sauces to choose from and best of all, the sauces were absolutely FOC!

Arrival of our food...

Instant noodles go really well with the Ma La Soup. The Mala soup here was more towards the "numb" side rather than spicy. The herbal soup was average.

The fried bean curd skin on the top left hand of the photo went very very well with the soup. We ordered 3 plates of this. They only had one selection for the fish which was carp. I really dislike the taste of carp..it is way too fishy for my liking. 4 of us could not finish this one small plate of fish. That alone can probably give you an idea about how fishy it was. We were glad that we did not order the carp fish set steamboat....Phew!!

 

At 10pm, they have a supper dim sum menu that you can order from. The restaurant is open till late, and it is a really good place to hang out at night if you feel like having supper.

Overall: The total bill was $178.65 for 4 pax which worked out to be around SGD 45 per pax. Even though the food was quite average, the service was good. The price ranges around the same as Hai Di Lao per pax. However, if I was to compare the two restaurants, I would definitely choose Hai Di Lao over Crystal Jade Steamboat. The only bad thing about eating at Hai Di Lao is that there is always such a long queue. Sigh...
