Majestic Bay & IndoChine @ Gardens By The Bay

29 January 2013

Having won the $100 from the SPH write up, I decided to use the prize money for another meal with the ladies. I picked another dim sum place called the “Majestic Bay Restaurant”, located at Gardens by the Bay.

It only took about 15 mins by car to get there from our office, followed by a good 7-minutes walk from the car park to the restaurant which is located beside the entrance of the flower dome.

Initially we wanted to order the ala carte dim sum but we were told that each basket has only 4 servings and there was no option to top up for a 5th serving.  As there were 5 of us and since I was not in the mood to argue, I chose the set menu which consists of 5 dim sum, a vegetable in superior broth, the soup of the day, a lobster noodle and dessert.

To our surprise, the siew mai and har gao actually arrived with 5 pieces per basket.  It made us wonder why the waitress wasn’t able to accommodate our earlier top up request.  Nonetheless we began eating heartily but to our disappointment the taste of the food does not warrant a second visit. We left the place after leaving some feedback with the waitress.

As it was still early we proceeded to Indochine which is located on the SuperTree for drinks. The cover charge for the afternoon is $10 for a glass of coffee, tea, mango/pineapple juice or fruit punch OR $18 for a glass of wine or draft beer.  If you are there for food as well, the cover charge is waived.

While we were enjoying the breeze and the lazy afternoon, my phone rang with an unfamiliar number.  Unexpectedly, it was the manager of Majestic Bay calling to ask about our visit. He sounded really apologetic and said that I should call and ask for him if I were to go back again.  He promised that everything will be up to standard.  He seemed so sincere that I couldn’t bear to tell him that today would be my first and last visit.

Coffee with a million dollar view

It felt like a teh – tarik cup

Coming back to IndoChine.  Personally the coffee and the canned juices are not worth the $10 cover charge.  But if you factor in the peaceful scenery, coupled with the nice and relaxing breeze $10 seems like a small price to pay to end the lunch on such a sweet note.
