The Cajun King is located at 15-1 Jalan Riang among landed houses and they offer seafood in Boston style. Seafood has always been my favorite so I had every reason to give this place a try.
So on our way back to Holland from Hougang, we stopped by at 5pm for an early dinner. Gladly we were the first to arrive. So even though we did not make any reservations, we were seated down quite promptly. I quickly decided on our order -- two Estrella beer (Spanish $11 each), one Dungeness Crab ($80) in King’s mix sauce (you can decide on the spiciness level), red sea prawns at the min. order of 250grams ($9 per 100 grams), green mussels in garlic and butter sauce 250 grams ($20).
Mr Guan likes the concept of this store : No frills No fuss. The tables are laid with something similar to mahjong paper. No utensils and plates are given and all food is served in big and super good quality plastic bags. So after each meal, the staff just needs to roll everything up and discard.
The big succulent mussels were the best mussels I had ever had! There was no fishy smell but we could actually taste the freshness of the each mussel. Prawns have always been my bestie and I decided to be BFF with the red sea prawns here. For 250 grams, we actually got TEN big and fresh prawns and they were cooked just right, leaving them springy and sweet. I targeted the crab last as I knew it was going to be a messy affair. I personally would not order the crab again. Although it was really big and the meat was really fresh, after separating the meat from the shell, the meat was quite tasteless. It became more like an order of plain boiled crab.
Total damage $170.10 for 2 pax
Verdict 4/5
